Getting there…it used to take months of travel by steamship or sail to travel abroad, especially to another hemisphere. On his initial trip to India, William Carey was over 5 months at sea with a newborn and a very unhappy spouse.

Today, travel and communication are much faster and easier; however, the “shrinking world” has given rise to the myth of global sameness. Multi-national corporations market their clothing, music, movies, and gadgets worldwide, reinforcing the myth that everyone is “just like me.”
